Disneyland Fire Dept. Insurance

Disneyland Fire Dept. Plaque

Another accurate attention to detail by the Disney Imagineers.

Missed by 99% of Disneyland guests, this plaque high on a wall in New Orleans Square reflects the fire protection services available in America at the turn of the previous century. Well before municipal fire departments provided fire protection to all citizens, building owners would pay for fire insurance and, in turn, receive a plaque similar to the one above. In the event of a fire, the responding fire brigade would check to see if the building was adorned with a plaque and, if so, they would proceed to put out the fire, knowing whom to bill for their services.
